Agile Sciences co-founder, Dr. John Cavanagh, is chosen to lead V Foundation-NCSU Cancer Therapeutic Training program. See press release.
On April 19th, the V foundation announced a $1M grant to fund NCSU students involved in cancer research. Agile co-founders Drs. John Cavanagh and Christian Melander are part of the core team that received this award.
Initially, students will be exposed to four ongoing NC State cancer therapeutic research programs in the laboratories of Dr. Cavanagh, Dr. Melander, Dr. Jonathan Lindsey and Dr. Jonathan Horowitz. Dr Cavanagh will lead the V Foundation funded program. These collaborating core faculty work in an array of cancer areas, providing students with a very broad view of cancer research.
It is anticipated that a portion of the research and training performed under the $1M grant, will focus on developing anti-biofilm drugs. It is well known that cancer patients who receive chemotherapy and radiation treatments are extremely susceptible to biofilm facilitated infections.
